From the smallest bugs to the largest creatures, the animal kingdom provides us with messengers on our path. Messengers that can only be recognized when we are ready to receive them.
I always say that dogs are my greatest teachers in life but to be honest, the most profound messages often come from wild animals that cross the invisible boundary between the two kingdoms.
I met many animal messengers throughout my life.
I learned about parenting from a newly hatched bird that fell down from a tree in my back yard.
I learned about healing from an injured butterfly that washed ashore in front of me.
I learned about tolerance from a house fly that insisted on becoming my friend.
I learned about acceptance from a bee that landed on me to die.
And most recently I learned about freedom from two little sparrows that came into my balcony and kept crashing into the glass window over and over again.
They showed me that those who we think are our enemies are often those who can set us free.
The birds were scared of me, still I was the only one who knew enough about the glass window to help them out of their “prison”.
I was there to serve them but they could not recognize that so they went into fight and flight mode, almost killing themselves out of fear.
It made me sad because I loved them so and wanted only what was best for them.
I also realized that this happens a lot in everyday, human life.
I want the best for people but they get scared of me when I try to show them the way to freedom.
It is not until they fall to their lowest low that they are open to guidance and healing.
And this is when I am there to help them out even though it means that I have to watch them suffer, or have them fight me or run away from me because they are not ready.
But one day we will fly together, the birds and I.
